While everyone has made a big deal about the class of 2020 “missing out” on their senior year, I believe that is not really true. While they may be right that they lost prom and graduation they had the opportunity to have senior pictures, senior ditch day, and even had the one on one help to apply for college and scholarships.
The 2021 class will most likely have NONE of that.
School has started and my daughter, a senior now, has gotten NO information on senior activities, senior pictures, or any other senior information any other year they would receive. Yearbooks are up in the air since they are starting school distance learning and I have no clue how she is supposed to be a lab assistant when she is not even on campus.
I did have her go to the senior meeting for parents thru zoom and she came away upset, even if they go back it will be NO senior activities. The biggest issue was that graduation can not even have family come see her since it is one car per graduate.
She has been told to buy the graduation pack at Jostens, senior pictures she has opted out of since they want a “sitting fee” for pictures taken in a gym that we then will have to buy also. The IB oral exams for English are being done in a google classroom meeting at a set time. There is now surges when our county never was even moved out of the most restrictive tier so I don’t see them reopening schools at all until at least march. My daughters have all opted to spend the rest of the school year distance learning.
Choir, will be done like they switched to last year. They will receive music and then record themselves singing their part, turn it in and he will make it sound like they all were singing together. Hopefully he will post it on his Youtube channel like last year so we can at least see and hear it.
My daughter and the rest of the 2021 class will NEVER have a prom since they didn’t get their junior prom and with the way the rates keep going up for COVID will most likely not see a senior prom either.
Hopefully, the counselors will have the help students need to apply for college and still have scholarship portfolios so they can still apply like in previous years, but it looks like everything is going to most likely be digital.
My daughter and the class of 2021’s senior experience will be completely different than any other classes so far. They will not have any senior experiences that everyone expects. So when everyone says poor 2020 I say they at least got most of their senior year.
